The Department of Defense has revealed openings for 45 non-military roles inside the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), offering long-term and contributory retirement position prospects for eligible Kenyan citizens.
A government announcement encouraged eligible candidates to submit their applications for the positions through the Public Service Commission's Form PSC 2 (Updated 2016), available for download on the official Public Service Commission site.
Submitted application forms along with photocopies of pertinent academic and occupational credentials must be sent to the Office of the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Defence, P.O. Box 40668–00100, Nairobi, or delivered directly at the entrance of Ulinzi House located near Lenana Road.
Applications must be submitted by January 20, 2026.
The highest number of open positions is for the role of Garden Assistant III (CSG 15), featuring 30 opportunities listed in Advertisement Number 1/2025.
Qualified individuals will receive a base monthly income between KSh 19,340 and Sh 24,470, along with a housing subsidy based on their posting location, a transportation grant of Sh 3,000 each month, and an annual vacation stipend of Sh 4,000.
The postings are available under ongoing and retirement-eligible conditions.
As per the ministry, individuals working as Garden Assistants at this stage will act as apprentices and will have the duty of caring for lawns, gardens, flower beds, and additional outdoor spaces.
They could also be assigned to perform different garden-related tasks inside Defense Department units, along with those at State House and official residences.
Candidates should have a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with an average score of D+ (Plus) or a comparable credential.
The Department has also announced 15 positions for Support Personnel/Sanitation Workers (CSG 16) through Advertisement Number 2/2025.
These roles offer a base monthly wage ranging from Sh 18,250 to Sh 22,720, plus housing compensation based on the location where you're assigned, a Sh 3,000 transportation allowance, and an annual vacation grant of Sh 4,000.
These positions are also available under permanent and retirement-eligible conditions.
Support personnel will handle sanitation cleaning tasks, execute courier duties, and fulfill additional relevant assignments as directed.
This role is suitable for beginners, and candidates must possess a KCSE average score of D (Standard) or the corresponding qualification, along with a certification in computer applications from an accredited organization.
The government warned candidates not to engage in lobbying efforts, stating that any type of such activity would lead to immediate rejection.
It further highlighted that the hiring procedure will be open to all, inviting eligible individuals to apply irrespective of their gender, age, ethnicity, cultural background, faith, marital condition, or physical ability.
